With 10 weeks left until her due date, Crystal left a routine doctor appointment that showed nothing abnormal. Little did she know the next day she would hear the words, "Don't freak out, but you are 8 cm dilated!" A reasonable fear of all soon-to-be moms quickly became reality as Baby D adamantly made his (very) early arrival Earth side.
After feeling some intense pain, Crystal became concerned and called her doctor who asked that she come in to check things out. She was quickly sent to labor & delivery after finding out she was in active labor and only 2cm away from being fully dilated! Within an hour of arriving at the hospital, Crystal's tiny boy was born at 30 weeks gestation.
Dean was born weighing 3 lbs. 15 oz. and 16 3/4 inches long. Being so premature, he required a feeding tube and spent some time in an incubator with Mom and Dad by his side rooting for him everyday. With lots of love and some awesome doctors, the progress he's made and continues to make is incredible. Today, Dean sleeps in a crib in the NICU and is no longer jaundiced. He is still too tiny to drink from a bottle but receives momma-milk via feeding tube everyday and only needs a little assistance regulating his body temperature. He's expected to go home at the beginning of December which will be the best early Christmas present that mom and dad could ever receive.
